crayon pumpkins

so, i saw this several places on pinterest.  the ones i read used artificial pumpkins- which to be honest i wish we would have.  these turned out so awesome that i wish the kids could keep them!  we used the pumpkins we picked on our field trip to the pumpkin patch.

simple craft that looks super cool!  we peeled the labels off of old crayons.  my super-duper awesome assistant and i hot glued the crayons onto the pumpkins.  we had the students decide which colors and what order they wanted them.  we used this time to review colors of course! then we discussed solids turning into liquid ....that's right, i tried to throw a little science into the mix of this craft :)  we helped the students melt the crayons with hair dryers.........it was awesome!

side note- how cool does the inside of this box look?

happy halloween!

yard sale tray

last month i was in north carolina visiting with some of my favorite people.  seriously- i got to see both of my sisters- all 5 of their kids (my favorite part), my brother-in-laws, my mom and six of my very best friends.  it was a good visit.  while i was there my best friend sarah and i went to a yard sale.  she scored a great lamp for her nursery.  as we walked away i felt the urge to buy something.....anything!  i grabbed this tray knowing (hoping) that i could make an awesome transformation.  well- it's taken me a month- but i did it.  ok, the transformation may not qualify as awesome- but it's not too bad!

an old vintage tv tray

she was selling it for $2.00- but being the serious wheeler-dealer that i am- i paid just $1.00 for this treasure!

a few coats of banner red spray paint....

ta-da!!  an alphabet tray for the kids! while most people have magnetic refrigerators- we don't!

i plan to work with jack on his......reading.

will can use this for activities with letter sounds.

and anna michael will practice learning her a,b,c,d's as she likes to call them.  clearly we have some work to do!

i was never the kind of girl who liked a yard sale.  i have to say- it's starting to be lots of fun!!

"dat not pink"

yesterday i spent some time working on a favorite hobby of mine....spray painting.  it always makes me happy.  it's amazing what a burst of color can do for your mood.  i had two wooden chairs for anna michael that were in need of a little love.  i decided to paint the booster seat green to match the dinning room and a rocker pink for her room.  when she came outside to look at her chairs she said and i quote, "dat not pink. dat my chair but it not pink.  i want pink, it my favorite."  this kid is too funny.

water bottle labels

i love little details.  i think it's the little things that make the big difference in a party.  i'm always tempted to buy those super cute water bottle labels that are in every sweet etsy shop.  my printer is not good enough for the printable kind- and in the end of my shopping, i'm usually to cheap to buy the others.  i do think they are so cute though.  last night i decided i would make my own.

supplies: water bottles, paper, paper cutter, glue dots, and some type of embellishment if you'd like.

i simply removed one label and measured the width.  i didn't even bother to cut the correct length.

i added a few glue dots to either end of the strip of paper

and wrapped it around the bottle

next i added a heart

one more thing to check off of my party list!  pretty cute huh?
one week till valentine's day!!

baby it's cold outside

it's finally starting to feel like winter at my house.  (ok, actually today was pretty warm!)  i found lots of little cotton gloves on clearance at target over the past few weeks.  a normal person would have grabbed a pair or two......i grabbed them all.  i know.  it's hording.  they are all girl gloves.  i have one girl.  with tiny hands.  anyways- i just knew i could find a good project for these bargain priced gloves.

and i did!!  i decided to add fabric flowers to them and give them away as valentine's gifts.
here is what i did:
yes, that tag says 60 cents.....for two pair of gloves!  can you believe it?

i used the same tutorial from this post.

i learned how to make these other flowers right here.  her crafts are amazing.

added a little hot glue to the back and stuck it right to the gloves.

pretty cute gift for thirty cents!  of course i still had like twenty sets of gloves when i was done-  you'll be happy to know i donated those.

stay warm :)
